Welcome to HPI

Our mission is to demonstrate and teach sustainable ways to live, mindful of our interconnectedness with the Earth, its ecosystems, and all it’s species.

We demonstrate and teach sustainable principles and place-based practices in our Home, the High Plains of North America . Sustainable practices are low-impact, resilient, and can continue indefinitely without destroying species or degrading ecosystems. They seek to localize cycles of mass and energy and to emulate the functioning of healthy ecosystems. These practices include organic food production, water conservation and reuse, natural systems of waste management, place-appropriate construction using local materials, renewable energy and a social system that promotes the health and well being of all.

We are a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, filling a unique gap in our community. We implement our mission by providing hands-on training, practical demonstration, outreach, research, and technical assistance so that the food we grow, the structures we build, and the relationships we make will allow us to live in harmony and abundance on this beautiful planet.

Thanks for visiting our site. We hope you’ll come back soon and often.
